Now is the perfect time to roll up your sleeves and learn some practical new skills for your garden which will leave you energised and ready to go in the springtime. Garden Pavilion Powerscourt Garden Pavilion It's harvest time! Would you like to discover the art of foraging wild and edible foods such as wild flowers, herbs, walnuts, berries, mushrooms and garlic? Join Vincent Sheehy, a horticulture graduate along Powerscourt River Walk and discover what foods you can enjoy from the wild at home in your kitchen. September 29th at 11am. Find out more. 02J00916 The Bray Institute of Further Education Choose from a fabulous range of courses at the The Bray Institute of Further Education including certificates in Garden Design and Horticulture which are one-year part-time courses. They also running a bee-keeping course this autumn every Monday which runs for 10 weeks at a cost of €120. We had huge interest in our bee-keeping workshop with Philip Mc Cabe earlier this year and bee keeping is certainly growing in popularity! Find out more here. 02G64897 Huntingbrook Gardens Hidden in the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains lies Hunting Brook Gardens, a beautiful sanctuary  from the modern world. Untitled Festina Lente Festina Lente in Bray, County Wicklow has some interesting courses coming up. Learn how to grow autumn garlic and green manures on Sunday 22nd September and  Sunday 29th September at 2pm and 3.30pm. Cabinteely Adult Education There are some great courses on offer this Autumn at Cabinteely Community School for night-classes. Why not learn how to 'Grow Your Own' garden each Monday evening from 7.00–8.30pm (5 Weeks). This course is an introduction to growing your own food and covers topics such as soil preparation, planting methods, and container growing. Each week there will be a" hands on” practical session. Also available at Cabinteely is a course on designing your own garden every Wednesday from 7.30–9.45pm (10 weeks) for €110. Taught by a qualified and experienced Landscape Designer, this course will cover topics such as: simple site surveys and site analysis, drawing to scale, basic design theory, overcoming common design problems, introduction to materials, plant types and their uses and the garden through the seasons. Find out more. 02G11566 The Botanic Gardens Don't miss evening classes on Irish botany for beginners in September at the National Botanic Gardens! The course will include weekly classes (7.30-9.00 pm), guided walks in the gardens and a Saturday morning field-trip.  Learn how to designed identify Irish wild plants and explore the diversity of Ireland's common and rare wild flora. Come and learn about the diversity of Irish plants and their habitats as well as learn how to identify Ireland’s wild plant species! Each course is offered at a cost of € 100 (Proceeds to the Irish Museums Trust). Dublin School of Horticulture If you are looking to immerse yourself in some longer-term study, the The Dublin School of Horticulture offers some great options such as a Certificate in the Principles of Horticulture. Learn about plant selection and planning, how to maintain garden plants and lawns, and how to grow outdoor fruit and vegetables. The Dublin School of Horticulture has been offering courses of study for Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Qualifications since 1998. Their courses are open to anyone with an interest in gardening and horticulture! Find out more here.

The RHS The Royal Horticultural Society of Ireland is holding a propogation workshop. It will be given by Ciaran Burke and will take place in St Brigid's Parish Centre, St Brigid's Church Road, Stillorgan, Dublin on Saturday 28th September from 10.30am until 12.30pm. All are welcome. The Dun Laoghaire Further Education Institute The Dun Laoghaire Further Education Institute has plenty of courses on this autumn for you to enjoy as the evenings get shorter. Why not learn a new skill such as bee-keeping or dog grooming? Beekeeping Tue: 7.15-9.15, 8 weeks for €100. Starts: 1st Oct 2013 & 27th Jan 2014. All you need to know about getting started in bee-keeping. Managing the bees,  the life cycle of the colony, bee diseases, treatments, feeding, swarm control and  harvesting honey as a crop. Course delivered by a third generation beekeeper. Dog Grooming Tue: 7.00-9.00pm 10 Weeks for € 130. Starts: 24th Sep 2013 & 28th Jan 2014 Keep your dog in tip top condition. Reduce grooming fees by learning the essential skills of regular maintenance, handling techniques and equipment use.
